My visit to the „Hit the North Festival 2025“ in Belfast – Green meets color

I am in Belfast in May – and I only can say: This city lives and breathes urban art. So it's no wonder that the ``Hit the North Festival`` is taking place right here. For four days, the city transforms into a gigantic open-air studio – walls become canvases, colors become statements, and streets become galleries.

The festival, which was launched in 2013, has given hundreds of walls a new lease of life – in a neighborhood that was once considered abandoned. Today, it’s clear: art can transform, awaken, and connect. I’ve already been able to wander through the streets, let myself drift, and discover murals that tell stories – sometimes loudly, sometimes quietly, but always powerfully.

In between, a stop at „The Jailhouse Belfast“ – a small restaurant with a historic flair and great food – or a bite to eat at „Sawers„, where street food meets delicacies. Belfast surprises, both culinary and artistic.

But what I enjoy most – the encounters. I’m thankful about the exchange with artists like Imogen and Wee Nuls. Also meeting Jack Lack Art – his works speak a very unique language. And then: HERA by herakut! Her work has been among my favorites for years – poetic, political, and deeply human.
And all the other encounters.

What else makes the festival special? The relaxed atmosphere. No commercial overload, no big show – just a genuine passion for art in public spaces.

Thank you for the time in this beautiful city/country, Visit Belfast, Tourism Ireland, Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival, and Hit The North Street Art Festival.
